The challenge
Hodge Hill Garden Centre already had a solar PV system but wanted to expand its renewable energy capacity with a larger, more efficient and smarter system.
What we installed
We designed and installed a system that increases energy production and adds smart monitoring, so the garden centre can track solar generation, efficiency and savings in real time.
- System size
- 21 kW
- Installation type
- Roof-mounted
- Panels
- 42 × 500 W JA Solar
- Inverter
- 20 kW Solis three-phase
- Mounting
- K2 trapezoidal roof mounting system
- Monitoring
- Smart monitoring system
The result
The system is expected to generate 16,555 kWh a year and avoid approximately four tonnes of CO2 emissions a year, equivalent to planting over 794 trees over the lifetime of the system.
The garden centre will also make significant savings on electricity costs that it can reinvest in other areas of the business.
Funding
The project was part-funded by the Net Zero Worcestershire Grants Programme, which supports local businesses in reducing energy consumption and cutting carbon emissions.
Businesses in the West Midlands and Worcestershire may also be eligible for funding through the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) with the West Midlands Combined Authority. BEAS can help fund improvements including solar panels, refrigeration, insulation, water management, recycling and waste equipment, ventilation, heating and energy-efficient lighting.
BEAS covers Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the Marches (Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin).
